Last week’s featured gear line was Orange Amplifiers! An English amplifier manufacturing company founded in 1968, they are famous for their distinctive sound and bright orange Tolex-like covering on amplifier heads and speaker cabinets.
The Orange brand was well established as a manufacturer of valve amps by the mid-1970s, and in 1975 Orange launched the Custom Reverb Twin MKII which was introduced to compete directly with the Fender Twin Reverb. Similarly priced, this amp featured a Hammond spring reverb, a tremolo, and a master volume.
Throughout the 1980s production of Orange Amplifiers was extremely limited and sold in small quantities to special order. The company began a renaissance in the mid 1990s, with Noel Gallagher using Orange almost exclusively on the early Oasis albums and giving his input to company management.
Today they are used by a wide range of artists and bands including Jimmy Page, Geddy Lee, Mastodon, Fleetwood Mac, Deftones, Korn, and ZZ Top.
